Carol is likely to be the first person you meet at Barrowhill Hall, so we thought you’d like to find out a bit more about her.
How long have you worked at Barrowhill Hall?
I’ve been here seven years now. I came here as the activities coordinator before moving onto reception and supporting Paula, our office manager, with administration.
Tell us about your family
I have been married to Chris for 41 years and we have three children, Dominic, Adam and Kelly. I’m also grandmother to five and when we all get together it’s a big affair! I’ve lived in Staffordshire all my life and I wouldn’t be anywhere else, apart from Malta where Dominic lives and works.
Describe a typical day for you at Barrowhill Hall?
My day starts with delivering newspapers to the residents. Many of them like to have their regular daily paper, just as they would have done at home. Then I answer the phone to families, book appointments for people who want to come to have a look around and any other queries. I’m also the first person people see when they arrive and I really enjoy meeting people and telling them about the wonderful place we have here.
What’s your favourite part of Barrowhill Hall?
What I love best about Barrowhill is the family feel and the support that everyone is given. I know many of the staff talk about the sense that we’re a ‘family’ here but that’s really how it feels.
What’s your favourite place in Staffordshire?
Mayfield, the small village I grew up in, and the countryside around it. It’s on the banks of the River Dove and it’s a beautiful place. It was known for its mills and amazingly one still exists.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Spend time with my family, and I read and do puzzles. I love crosswords and Sudoku.
Favourite oatcake filling?
I like my oatcakes empty – with a full English breakfast!
What do you want families who visit Barrowhill to take away with them?
Peace of mind that their relative is going to be safe and well cared for in a homely environment.
What are you most proud of?
Besides my family, I am proud of getting my NVQ 2 in business studies at the age of 60!
